We’re Out Of Iraq…What’s Next?

This message was sent by President Obama today:

Early this morning, the last of our troops left Iraq.

As we honor and reflect on the sacrifices that millions of men and women made for this war, I wanted to make sure you heard the news.

Bringing this war to a responsible end was a cause that sparked many Americans to get involved in the political process for the first time. Today’s outcome is a reminder that we all have a stake in our country’s future, and a say in the direction we choose.

Thank you.

So…we’re outta there finally! U.S. troops will no longer be in Iraq (but America isn’t fully out of Iraq in that one of the U.S.’s largest embassies will remain — about 16,000 people, 5,000 of whom are private contractors hmmmm…looks like those “job creators” found a way to create jobs for themselves…).

I am glad that the troops left Iraq because it is loooong past the time when the soldiers should be home with their families. What’s next for them?  Well, I’d be even more glad if the troops had a great economy and jobs to come home to keep obstructing, Republicans! It’s not like the nation is counting on you, as our elected officials to do right by ALL of America’s citizens, not just those who voted for you or climbed up and/or stepped on others to reach  the top 1% of the wealth ladder.

The President has announced plans to create employment and find housing opportunities for returning troops, in addition to ensuring that their healthcare needs are met. Given that many politicians have name-dropped the “Support Our Troops” mantra to further their own goals over the past decade, it seems that the least Congress can do is support these efforts. We know they won’t support anything and I do mean ANY/EVERYTHING  the President wants but, for the sake of all that patriotism those on the right toss about when it’s convenient, maybe they’ll think about the troops now since they weren’t thinking about them when they were shipped off to war.

I can dream, can’t I?
